Mayor Cogswell Engages with Federal Leaders
Mayor William Cogswell and key staff traveled to Washington, D.C. to meet with federal agencies on matters directly impacting Charleston’s infrastructure and livability—most notably the Battery Extension flood mitigation project and affordable housing initiatives with HUD Secretary Marcia Fudge. These conversations are part of a broader push to secure funding and accelerate implementation timelines.

Maybank Highway Ownership Proposal
A proposal for the City of Charleston to assume ownership of a portion of Maybank Highway was approved by the Traffic and Transportation Committee and now moves to full City Council. The shift in ownership is designed to help expedite plans to add a second lane off Johns Island—balancing improved traffic flow with environmental protection.

Spoleto Festival USA Continues Through June 8
Charleston’s iconic performing arts festival is in full swing, drawing international talent and thousands of visitors to venues around the city. Highlights include Patti Smith and Jeff Tweedy performing live at College of Charleston’s Cistern Yard.

Pitt Street Bridge Micromobility Project Nears Completion
The Old Village's beloved Pitt Street Bridge is undergoing improvements designed to enhance walkability and water access. Upgrades include erosion control, resurfacing, a rebuilt kayak ramp, and the addition of pedestrian lighting—making it safer and more enjoyable for all.

All-American Boulevard Extension
Mount Pleasant is nearing completion of the All-American Boulevard extension, a $5.29 million infrastructure project designed to alleviate congestion along Highway 17. The new two-lane road will connect Lexington Drive to Park West Boulevard, while also integrating an 8–10 foot shared-use path as part of the growing Mount Pleasant Way pedestrian and cycling network.

Party at the Point: June Concert Series
Mount Pleasant’s beloved waterfront concert series runs every Friday night in June at Charleston Harbor Resort & Marina. Upcoming headliners include The Midnight City and the Highway Boys.

City of North Charleston Updates
High Tide Festival at Riverfront Park
On June 6–7, 2025, Riverfront Park in North Charleston will host the High Tide Festival, a premier dance music event featuring over 25 DJs across two stages. Attendees can enjoy a silent disco, food trucks, cocktail gardens, live interactive art installations, and more. The festival offers General Admission, VIP, and Super VIP passes, each providing unique perks and access levels.

Comprehensive Plan Review (PRIME North Charleston)
The City is actively updating its PRIME Comprehensive Plan, which informs zoning, development, and city-wide improvements. Residents are encouraged to review the plan and provide input by June 9.

Roper Hospital Campus Set to Anchor North Charleston Redevelopment
A 27-acre redevelopment surrounding Roper St. Francis Healthcare’s future hospital campus is poised to transform the southern gateway of North Charleston. Led by Jamestown, a national real estate investment and development firm, the project is expected to include retail, housing, office space, and walkable infrastructure—anchored by Roper’s new $1 billion hospital. Construction on the surrounding development is expected to begin in 2026, following the hospital’s vertical build.

Gethsemani Community Center Redevelopment
North Charleston has officially broken ground on a major redevelopment of the Gethsemani Community Center in the Union Heights neighborhood. The revitalization includes a full-size swimming pool, upgraded facilities for children, and new community gathering spaces. Mayor Reggie Burgess has emphasized the project as a promise kept and a long-overdue investment in one of the city’s oldest neighborhoods. Construction is expected to be complete by late 2026.
